Editorial Policy
FreelanceToolkit UK publishes practical guides, tools and comparisons for UK freelancers and contractors. This policy documents how we approach accuracy, sources, corrections, affiliate placements and the editorial scope we work within.
Accuracy
Every factual claim about UK tax rates, thresholds, deadlines, regulatory requirements and provider features is verified against the primary source at time of writing. Tax figures use the latest HMRC documentation. Companies House requirements use the gov.uk official guidance. Affiliate provider pricing is verified against the provider's published rate card. Every page is dated with a Last reviewed stamp showing when it was last verified.
Sources
Our primary sources are: HMRC official guidance and gov.uk; Companies House published rules; FCA-published consumer guidance for regulated financial topics; ICO for data protection; the Office for National Statistics for market-context data; and provider-published rate cards / feature documentation for commercial comparisons. See sources & methodology for the full picture.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it. Email our contact page with a correction request — turnaround is typically same-day for clear factual errors. Material corrections are noted on the affected page and the page's Last reviewed stamp is updated. We don't quietly silently edit substantive errors.
Affiliate placements
Many pages on FreelanceToolkit UK contain affiliate links — when a reader clicks an affiliate link and signs up to a provider, we may earn a commission. This never affects which providers we recommend or how we describe them. Editorial recommendations are based on fit for UK freelance use cases, not commission rates. See our affiliate disclosure for the full position. Every page that contains an affiliate link displays a clear disclosure banner.
What we don't do
We don't publish fabricated review scores, ranked "best of" lists where the ranking is invented, sponsored content disguised as editorial, or commission-driven recommendations. We don't take payment for placement. We don't publish content generated by AI without human editorial review. We don't claim qualifications we don't have.
Editorial scope
Our remit is UK freelance and contractor operating questions — tax, accounting, banking, insurance, mortgages, productivity, client acquisition. We do not provide regulated financial advice, tax advice for specific situations, legal advice on specific cases, or advice for non-UK jurisdictions. Where a question requires a qualified professional, we say so explicitly.
Updates
We refresh tax figures, regulatory bands and provider details on a rolling basis — annually for major UK tax band changes (April), more frequently for affiliate provider pricing updates. Major regulatory changes (MTD ITSA April 2026, IR35 reforms etc.) trigger same-week updates across affected pages.
